Abandoned Project - New Delhi
In the year 2007 we came across a project in New Delhi India, which gives refuge to children who are abandoned and are left alone at an ashram.
These children are mostly girls, sometimes disabled or ill, and in all cases their parents decided, for whatever reason, they could not take care of them.
The project offers emergency shelter for these children in the form of security, food and water, a roof over their heads, clothing and medical care such as medication and vaccination. Every child is treated in the same way overlooking its gender, race, religion, social class or disability. The project is in need of support.
They deserve at least a chance to survive, but also a chance to grow, to be a child, to be loved, to learn, and a chance to become everything they can be.
We want to give them this chance by offering our support in whatever way we can.
In 2007 I spent six month at the project, offering my help. The aim was to achieve a trustworthy collaboration between the Udasin Ashram, the local developmental foundation Sewa Bharti and ‘Alleen ontmoet samen’. Other goals were to get an inside view of the project, the administration and to meet the people involved and working with the children. The ultimate goal was to create solutions and chances in order to give the children a life worth living.
At the end of October 2009 I will re-visit the project, to see if all the changes implemented in 2007 are still effective today and to take the next steps towards a more complete aid-program. I will bring a substantial amount of money, collected by the network of ‘Alleen ontmoet samen’, to be spent in whatever way necessary at the project.
